Peace
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4: 6-7
There’s so much going on in our world. Violence rages from one end of our country to the other in small towns, in big cities and in places in between. Then there are the health realities and scares of the day – the many strands of COVID-19 and Monkeypox. Open racism and discriminatory practices that we thought were behind us continue to veer their ugly heads. If those things were not enough, everyday challenges still plague us too. Illness, death, unemployment, relationship problems come one after the other. The pain, the struggles, the hardships, the difficulties, and the challenges could overwhelm us if we were left to our own devices. But I heard a minister say the other day that our God meets us, walks with us, challenges us to seek him amid our “midnights.”
Thankfully, we can take all our troubles, all of our midnights, to the Lord, and He answers. He gives us hope. He provides. He delivers. And He speaks to us through his peace that surpasses all understanding.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, when I consider the lilies of the field and how they grow – never toiling or spinning, I am reminded of how you take care of them. I am reminded that you will also take care of me and mine. I am reminded that I should not worry about anything but pray about everything. I thank you for your peace. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen
