HIS SPIRIT

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever – the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him, for he lives with you and will be in you. John 14:16-17

Many years ago. I was working in a position that was grant funded. Unlike some of my coworkers, I didn’t have another job lined up before our jobs ended. Following the end of the grant period, I did some contractual work, but technically, I was unemployed for nearly a year. I searched and searched. Finally, I interviewed for a job that seemed like a good match for me, and it was offered to me. The weekend before the Monday I was supposed to start, however, I felt unsettled in my spirit. I wasn’t sure why, but I knew I had to do something that was completely out of my character. I called the hiring official and shared that I wouldn’t be joining her team. When Monday came, I had no place to go and no prospects in sight. Months went by before I landed a position with another state agency. When the human resources representative told me the salary, I knew immediately why I had turned down the other position. The new salary was considerably higher. Had I accepted the first job, because of the way state compensation was structured at the time, I would have been locked into a salary rut that would have made it difficult for me to advance. The door that the Spirit had me close made way for another door that held greater possibilities.

PRAYER: Thank you Father for your Spirit. I thank you that through Him, I hear from you. Unclog my ears. Please help me always to walk by faith and not by sight. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen
