26 Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Go south to the road—the desert road—that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” 27 So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of the Kandake (which means “queen of the Ethiopians”). This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, 28 and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the Book of Isaiah the prophet. 29 The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.”
Acts 8:26-29
It is time for us to stop lying and be honest about where we really are with God. It is not our strength that brings him closer but our need for him. God declares to Paul that my grace is sufficient for you, for my power is perfected in weakness. Paul says that he will boast all the more in weakness, so that the power of God may rest on him. Who are we trying to fool when our attempts to impress God and others move us actually further from God than closer to God?
This man’s weakness and desire for God initiated the Holy Spirit to work on his behalf—so much so that the Spirit told Philip to go to the chariot and stay near it.
PRAYER: Father, I just simply need you. I can’t do right without you. I can’t seek you without you. I can’t pray without you. I can’t understand the scriptures without you. I am wretched and in need of your healing touch in my life. Lord, come to my chariot and stay near it. In the name of Jesus, I honor and give you praise. Amen
