Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
1 Corinthians 3:16
Temples are buildings devoted to worship – dwelling places. A temple can be the physical place where one worships, but this scripture reminds us that we are the place where God dwells. His Spirit dwells in us, lives in us, resides in us, abides in us.
This chapter of 1 Corinthians goes on to say that the defiling of the temple brings destruction. You see, His temple is holy. The Message Bible says, “You realize, don’t you, that you are the temple of God, and God himself is present in you? No one will get by with vandalizing God’s temple, you can be sure of that. God’s temple is sacred—and you, remember, are the temple.”
PRAYER: Lord, I recognize you as God the Father, the Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. The thought of you – Sovereign Lord, God Almighty, King of Kings, Shepherd, Banner, Everlasting Father – living in me is humbling. You have blessed me with this temple, and I need your help to do well by it. Strengthen me. Empower me to keep it free of junk food, bad thoughts, gossip, books, television shows, and movies that I wouldn’t feel comfortable sharing with you. I don’t want to pollute your dwelling place. Thank you for living in me. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
