And he stretched himself out on the child three times, and cried out to the Lord and said, “O Lord my God, I pray, let this child’s soul come back to him.” Then the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came back to him, and he revived. And Elijah took the child and brought him down from the upper room into the house, and gave him to his mother. And Elijah said, “See, your son lives!” Then the woman said to Elijah, “Now by this I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in your mouth is the truth.”

1 Kings 17:21-24 (NKJV)

Miracles. Miracles are surprising events that can’t be explained by natural or scientific laws. They are changes that can only be attributed to a move by the hand of God. This week we’ve explored the story of the prophet Elijah and the widow of Zarephath and seen the miracle of provision.

Later in 1 Kings 17 (verses 21-24), we see another miracle unfold. The widow’s son became sick to the point where there was no breath in his body. Elijah called out to the God of Abraham about this tragedy. He stretched himself on the child three times and asked God to bring the child back to life. Miraculously, the boy was revived. Seeing her son alive, the widow of Zarephath declared that Elijah was a man of God. These examples illustrate that we serve a miraculous God.

Are you asking for and believing for something that seems impossible – something unexplainable? Verses 20-21 in the third chapter of Ephesians say that He can do exceedingly above all that we ask or think. Our God is able!

PRAYER: Thank you Lord for being a God of miracles. I thank you that what is impossible with man is possible with you. Nothing is too hard for you. Your Word says if I have faith as small as a mustard seed, I can tell mountains to move from here to there, and they will move. Father, I give thanks to you for the miraculous. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
