If I am being poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all.
Philippians 2:17
There are times when we are in need of replenishment because of our ministry. Paul equates his service as being poured out as a drink offering. We have lived in a time when some Christian leaders have taken advantage of their place in leadership, allowing their flock to treat them like gods. In this passage of scripture, Paul gets to the heart of Christian ministry: sacrifice, selflessness, and servanthood for the sake of Christ. Those who have the heart of Christ understand that ministry is usually not being seen or acknowledged or thanked. It is about pouring out yourself until you are exhausted.
Despite how much ministry costs us, God is able to replenish us in the midst of pouring out. Think about it. Paul wrote this epistle (and others) to encourage OTHERS in the middle of a jail cell, not knowing if he would live or die. He was only able to do this, because of God was replenishing him. God was filling him, as he was filling others.
PRAYER: Jesus, fill me with your precious Holy Spirit. As I pour out myself to others, I need you to fill me back up. I pray that you will fill me completely with joy and peace because I trust in you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
