God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; Hebrews 1:1-2

I have a grandniece who recently turned nine months old. Nothing has brought our family more joy than watching her grow. When she hears a grandparent read scripture or pray in church, she sits up erect and turns her head toward the direction of her or his voice. A few weeks ago, she made her first steps, and now, like her dad did at that age, she’s walking. As she reaches these milestones, I wonder when her babbling will stop and when she’ll start to really talk. What will her voice sound like? What distinctive markers will help me know it’s her when she speaks?

Just as my niece recognizes her Bubbie and Pop Pop’s voices, I want to recognize God’s voice when He speaks. Have you wondered what God’s voice sounds like? How does He speak to us? How do we know it’s Him speaking?

The Bible says in Hebrews 1:1 that God spoke to our fathers by the prophets long ago many times and in many ways. He still speaks today. Over the next two weeks, we’ll talk about some ways He speaks and how to recognize his voice.

PRAYER: Lord, thank you for being the God who has always spoken to your people. I want you to speak to me. I want to hear your voice. I want to recognize that voice as you. My heart is open, Holy Spirit. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen
