The hand of the Lord came upon me and brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord, and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones. Then He caused me to pass by them all around, and behold, there were very many in the open valley; and indeed, they were very dry. And He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” So, I answered, “O Lord GOD, You know.

Ezekiel 37:1-3

Most of us can remember a sermon or two on this passage of scripture. I remember being a little girl at revival meetings and could hear the excitement of the congregation when the evangelist for the night preached about the Valley of the Dry Bones. I was too little to realize the connection between the passage of scripture and revival meetings.

Permit the Spirit of the Lord to take you to the Valley of Dry Bones this week, as Ezekiel experiences God’s power of revival. The Word of the Lord says that the hand of the Lord was upon Ezekiel and took him spiritually to a valley that was full of bones. The Spirit of the Lord gave Ezekiel the opportunity to not only view the bones but assess the status of what he saw. Upon this assessment, the Lord asked him a question. He asked Ezekiel if the bones can live.

The dry bones represented that life had once been there but was now gone. It also represented great loss to the nation of Israel. These people, God’s people, who once lived, loved, worshipped, and worked were now dead. This was also a disgraceful thing for the dead to not have a proper burial, to be allowed to fall prey to scavengers who fed on the dead. God’s people are not only dead, but they have been disgraced. I imagine it was a hopeless sight.

Question of the Day: Can your dry bones live?

PRAYER: Lord, there have been some places where I have lost hope, but I believe that this is the season of revival. Let this week be an opportunity for you to do some work in me. Revive me, again! In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
