“Guide Me Oh Thou Great Jehovah”
Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul
1 Peter 2:11
This is probably one of my favorite hymns. Its imagery is what makes it so beautiful. When singing this song, you visualize the children of Israel in the wilderness following the cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night. You think of the pain and suffering they endured—all the while knowing their God was with them.
When you sing this song, you are reminded that this world is not your home. We are just strangers and pilgrims passing through. This also reminds me that if I get too comfortable in this world, something is misaligned.
PRAYER: Lord, I must admit that I may have taken some wrong steps in my journey. I am not sure. If I have, I ask that you put me on the right path. In this life, I am just a pilgrim. This world is not my home. Let me remember Who is my king. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
