THE TEN COMMANDMENTS

PREFACE

And God spake all these words, saying, I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

Exodus 20:1-2

Inspired by the sermons of an anonymous pastor who served in ministry at Windsor Forest in the 1960’s.

These words are considered the preface to the Ten Commandments. It is like the trumpet that sounds giving us notice to hush and pay attention. Something great is coming. This preface is considered the door to the Ten Commandments.

As we move further in these devotionals on obedience and move to the Ten Commandments, I think it’s important to note how we are going to proceed. My friend and sister, Reverend Lenora Bonaparte, called me to tell me that she had received a number of sermons from the son-in-law of a preacher who had passed away some time ago. She told me that this son-in-law had given her all of his sermons and that she was willing to share some with me. I was ecstatic, because I have taken a couple of sermons from my sisters in the ministry; pulled some of the central truths and wrote devotionals from them. This really blesses me, because it allows me to use the anointing that Christ has given them, and it gives you the Word from a different perspective.

This pastor ministered in the early-mid-60’s, so it will be interesting to look at the Ten Commandments from a man who ministered some 60 years ago. I pray this blesses you. He writes,

“I have a deep and abiding conviction that it is high time to call our generation to see the great moral truths that concern our lives and by which God will judge our lives. God has given commandments, it is time for us to stand as the prophets of old and say to our generation that God's law is still in effect and that we shall pay the penalty for disobedience, we and our children and all the nations of the world.

People have said in the past few years that the world is standing on the brink of self-destruction. We had better see that it is standing on the brink of God’s judgment for willfully trampling underfoot the Divine law. The whole society in which we live is in immediate danger before God. This message needs to ring from every church in the land, ring through the halls of government, in the marketplace, everywhere.”

PRAYER: Lord, quiet my soul and give me the ears to hear what you want to say to me as we focus on the Ten Commandments. I know that these commandments are the heart of your moral truth. Let the Word sink deep into my heart. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
