Still Small Voice

and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.

1 Kings 19:12

In this passage, King Ahab told Jezebel all the things that the Elijah had done, including the prophets he had killed. After Jezebel sent word to Elijah that she would ensure that He was killed, he ran. In the wilderness, he prayed to die. As he lay and slept under a broom tree, an angel touched him and told him to arise and eat. He ate and drank and lay down again. The angel came back the second time and told him to arise and eat because the journey was too great for him. After eating and drinking, he went in the strength of that food for 40 days and 40 nights.

He went into a cave and spent the night. God asked, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” Elijah replied that he’d been a zealous servant was now alone and was being sought. He was instructed to stand on the mountain. The Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.

PRAYER: Lord, I’ve searched for your voice in many places – in the “wind,” in the “earthquake,” and in the “fire.” Sometimes you are in a still small voice. Quiet me so that I hear your voice. Speak to my heart, Holy Spirit. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen
