“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.”

Proverbs 31:8-9

The Lord has demonstrated advocacy for his people from the beginning of time until the end of time. He is always looking for ways to help us, even when we are not ready to be helped. He expects his children to do the same.

When was the last time you advocated for someone else—for one who could not help themselves? Proverbs declares that we are to speak up for those who can’t speak for themselves. Our interactions with the less fortunate should be demonstrated in our everyday life.

Ask the Holy Spirit to advocate through you when it comes to the mentally ill, the abused, the prisoners, the poor. Psalm 41:1 says, “Blessed are those who have regard for the weak; the LORD delivers them in times of trouble.” Jeremiah 22:3 says, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Do what is just and right. Rescue from the hand of the oppressor the one who has been robbed. Do no wrong or violence to the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place.” Jesus said in Matthew 25: 40, “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for the one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.

PRAYER: Father, I realize that I have squandered many opportunities to fight for justice for those who do not have a voice. Give me the courage and strength to help the poor, needy, and less fortunate. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
