So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and she and he and her household ate for many days. The bin of flour was not used up, nor did the jar of oil run dry, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke by Elijah.
1 Kings 7:15-16 (NKJV)
The Word of God says that the widow of Zarephath was obedient. The chain of events progressed just as the man of God had prophesied. She did what Elijah said, and she and her household ate for many days. Her food was extended supernaturally. That miracle happened after she did what God – through his servant – asked her to do.
To obey is to comply or submit to someone in authority. The Bible has a lot to say about obedience. If we love God, we will keep his commandments (John 14:15). Put another way: Obedience is our faith in action.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I want to be open to hearing your voice and to your leading. I know that when I am open, I pave the way for obedience. My desire is to walk in your will and your way. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
