Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments.”

Psalm 119:6

Most of us have strengths and weaknesses. There are things you do well and there are other things you may struggle with. Most of us usually “favor” those things that we do well, but we avoid those things that we don’t do well.

It is the same with our faith. We usually favor those commandments or decrees that we can do without blinking an eye. If you have issues with fornication, but you have no issue paying your tithes, you may avoid talking about or listening to anyone who is teaching or preaching on fornication. You may even love the verses on tithing if that is not your weakness. I think you get what I am saying. We can sometime “cherry pick” those verse of scripture that don’t correct or convict us.

In this Psalm, the psalmist declares that he will not be ashamed when he has respect for all God’s commandments. To do anything else is hypocrisy. If you have a propensity to commit certain sins, spend time in God’s Word so that you can get stronger. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you. Don’t be like a fool and act as if that commandment does not exist. Think about Herod who listened to John the Baptist but would not leave his incestuous relationship. Think about some of our Christian brothers and sisters who promote pro-life but have issues loving all of their Christian brothers and sisters.

PRAYER: Lord, give me a heart that seeks to respect and obey all of your commands. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
