“Then the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet, saying, “Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, and this temple to lie in ruins?”

Haggai 1:3-4

The past 2½ years have certainly challenged our priorities. If you are like most, the things that used to matter just don’t matter much anymore. We focused so much on material things and lost sight of the things that matter the most.

It was the same in Haggai’s time. Many of the people had returned to Jerusalem from exile. They had attempted to build the temple before, but the work stopped for about 15 years. God used Haggai and Zechariah to encourage the people to make rebuilding the temple a priority.

What is God asking you to rebuild? For some of us, it could be as simple as a relationship with him. Many of us spent so much time and effort doing church stuff that we truly neglected a pure relationship with God. Unfortunately, when our church doors closed, that left many of us with little or nothing.

It is time to spend our time building what really matters. It is time to spend time in prayer – talking to God, getting to know Him better. It is time to learn the Word of God so that we better understand the mind and will of the Lord. It is time to spend time in His presence worshipping and building intimacy with him. It is time to rebuild.

PRAYER: Lord, thank you for changing my priorities. Let my time, attention, and resources reflect what really matters. Lord, pour into me this season. I want to spend time with you. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
