And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
1 Peter 5:10
Before we get into the word “restore," let’s look at some of the things that plagued the Christian church during the time 1 Peter was penned. God’s people were going through difficulty. They had endured slander and ridicule for Christ (4:14,15) and were being encouraged in the midst of it. They were being told that despite the difficulty, their character could not be compromised for they were a part of a kingdom that has been manifested by an imperishable seed, through the Word of God.
It was important for them to remember their suffering came at the backdrop of the kingdom of God. Despite how difficult or overbearing the pain, they were a part of an incorruptible kingdom – one that could not be restrained or constrained.
PRAYER: Lord, thank you for reminding me about my need to remain obedient in light of your glorious kingdom. It does not matter what is going on in my mind or around me. I must keep my eyes on you. Thank you for reminding me that even if I should suffer for what is right, I am still blessed. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
