For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is always before me. Psalm 51:3

I believe that this verse of scripture gives us a snapshot into David’s innermost being during this time of unrepentance. He says that he acknowledges his transgressions and his sin is always before him.

David has the antidote for his shortcomings, and that is admission of his sin. David doesn’t say the devil made him do it. He did not blame Bathsheba. He does not blame any of his soldiers for killing Uriah. He says, I admit that I have done wrong.

  • 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

  • Acts 3:19 says, “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.”

  • Proverbs 28:13 states, “He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.”

Noted above are just a few benefits of repentance: God’s forgiveness; God’s cleansing; God’s refreshing; and God’s mercy.

PRAYER: Lord, I thank you demonstrating the benefits of repentance. Search me Lord, and give me the grace to admit my wrongdoing without any crutches. I repent. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
