And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—
John 14:16
Here we find in a similar context of God’s advocacy. Jesus told his disciples that they will keep his commands, IF they love him. Then, he says the Holy Spirit would help them and be with them forever.
Yesterday we discussed advocacy through Christ, who satisfies the penalty of our sin. In our daily walk, we have the Holy Spirit, who helps us live in obedience.
In a day when we flippantly talk about sin and consider it inconsequential in our lives, the Word of God says the contrary. God declares the standard, but he also provides for us to meet it. He provides an Advocate in dealing judiciously with our sins and also provides the aid to help us walk obediently before him.
PRAYER: Lord, thank you for being my Advocate, both in satisfying the penalty of sin and also helping me walk out an obedient life. Give me an awareness of the Holy Spirit’s role in my every day life. Let me lean on him when I am weak and ask him about escape hatches when I am tempted to sin.
