Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.

John 8:12

God’s light is an overcoming light. John 1:1-5 states that in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it (John 1:5)

Despite how dark the night, there is no darkness that can overcome him because the life is connected to the life of Jesus. This Jesus was here at the beginning with God. All things were created through him and for him. He is before all things and in him all things hold together.

PRAYER: Lord, your light overcomes the darkness. That means that nothing can happen today that you can’t overcome. When I am overwhelmed by the darkness of this world, let me find my solace and rest in your light. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
