But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
John 14:26
My mother passed a little over five years ago. She had a stroke which resulted in her having vascular dementia. That condition tried its best to rob her of her memory – events of the past, telephone numbers, the ability to function independently.
As her condition progressed, there were some things she couldn’t remember. God’s WORD was not one of them! She held on to His WORD!
Our mother’s situation could have been somewhat easier if she could read, but she was technically blind during the last few years of her life. Although she was unable to remember some things and couldn’t see well, she was not helpless. She had a Helper, the Holy Spirit. Time and time again, I witnessed Him bringing the Word to her remembrance. When she was younger, she had written the Word on her heart, and He brought his truth back to her mind so that she didn’t sin against him. He brought his promises back to her remembrance – enabling her to comfort and encourage herself and others. Because of the Holy Spirit, the WORD flowed from her heart to her lips.
PRAYER: Father, I thank you for sending the Holy Spirit who teaches me all things and brings your Word back to my remembrance. Your Word reminds me of who you are – a faithful God. Your Word is life to me. It is the marrow in my bones. It encourages, comforts, and keeps me. In the name of Jesus, I thank you. Amen.
