Against You, you only, have I sinned, and done this evil in Your sight— That You may be found just when You speak, and blameless when You judge. Psalm 51:4

David had committed some harsh relational sins. These sins were not just sins done against his body; they were done against people. He impregnated a married woman and had her husband killed. In his wrong, he does not run to Bathsheba to repent, he runs to God. Why? He does this because he knows that all sin is ultimately against God.

Many times when we have wronged others, we want to first restore our good standing with them. There is a place for that, but this psalm reminds us that our restored relationship with God comes first and foremost.

PRAYER: Father, I admit that I have sometimes placed my relationship with others above my relationship with you. I may have gone and asked them for forgiveness, when I have wronged them, instead of coming to you. Remind me that I must have right relationship with you before I can have right relationship with others. In the name of Jesus, I thank you. Amen.
