Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
Hebrews 7:25
To pull this small verse out of the context of scripture feels cheap, but for the purposes of this devotional, we will try to focus on the fact that Jesus is our intercessor in heaven—still our Advocate.
In the preceding verse, there is a reference to the superiority of the priesthood of Christ. It is a permanent priesthood, unlike those before him. Under his priesthood, Jesus is able to completely save those who come to God through him because he intercedes on our behalf. His advocacy is based on the fact that he is a priest who does not need to offer sacrifices day after day. His sacrificial death satisfies the penalty of our sins.
With all of that in mind, we can rest assured that Christ’s advocacy for us will never stop. Just as He lives forever, his work on our behalf is forever. This work demonstrates his continual love and concern for our wellbeing.
PRAYER: Father, many times, I feel so inadequate. I fall short of your righteous requirements and then feel hopeless about ever measuring up to your standards. Give me the grace to rest on the surety of your priesthood. Because you are the perfect advocate, I can rest assured that you have saved me from my sins.
