My son, if sinful men entice you, do not give in to them.   If they say, “Come

along with us; let’s lie in wait for innocent blood, let’s ambush some

harmless soul;   let’s swallow them alive, like the grave, and whole, like those

who go down to the pit;   we will get all sorts of valuable things

and fill our houses with plunder; cast lots with us; we will all share the

loot”—   my son, do not go along with them, do not set foot on their paths;

Proverbs 1:11-15

Wouldn’t it be great if peer pressure would just go away? Though we find it more

powerful as a young person, it remains a strong influence in our lives even as we

get older. The writer tells his young son not to allow sinful men to entice him. The

writer is very descriptive in how sinful men tempt us. They want us to get

something that does not belong to us, to take advantage of an innocent, harmless

soul. The writer tells his son to not go along with them or set his foot on their

paths.

Many times we call someone’s bad situation our blessing. If your blessing comes

at the expense of some innocent soul, is it your blessing? Is it anyone’s blessing?

Even when we are old, we must be willing to stand and do the right thing. That

means being comfortable standing alone.

PRAYER: Lord, I have been consumed with what others think of me. Let me

change my focus from them to you. Give me a heart that breaks the way yours

does. Give me a mind that focuses on your godly characteristics, and let my

activity reflect obedience to you. In the Name of Jesus. Amen
