But He said, “On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.”

Luke 11:28

Have you ever given instruction to a child who did what you told them but lacked the passion for it. Have you ever been in a relationship with a significant other who did what you wanted, but you knew their heart was just not there. How did it make you feel? If you were like me, you received no satisfaction from it, because their hearts were not in it.

It is the same with God. God does not want us to lag in our diligence. He wants us to serve him with fervor. He wants us to be passionate about our love for him. He wants us to want to obey Him.

What does your obedience look like? Is it a passionate obedience that seeks to please our God, or is it a humdrum action that has been birthed out of a requirement? Is your obedience done to avoid punishment or a ticket to a blessed life?

PRAYER: Lord, today is assessment day. I want to obey you because I love you. I don’t want an obedience that has been birthed in fear. Give me a passionate love for you so that everything I do is birthed in that place. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
