REBUILDING THE LIVES OF OTHERS

The king said to me, “What is it you want?” Then I prayed to the God of heaven, and I answered the king

Nehemiah 2:4-5a

Those are some powerful words in verse 4. This king who had a vast kingdom of rule asks Nehemiah, “What is it you want?” Nehemiah could have made a decision based on his thoughts. He could have done like many of us would do, weighing the benefit of one decision against another. He could have consulted his emotions, allowing his affection to determine how he would answer the king. He could have considered his physicality – how he felt in his body that day or the wellbeing of his family. Nehemiah did not consult his thoughts, his feelings, or his own body. He went to his God. The Word of the Lord states that when the king asked the question, he prayed so that God would provide the answer.

The Word of the Lord says that we should pray without ceasing. Many of us think of prayer as an exercise we engage in when we are at home or in church. We should be communicating with God all of the time so that we make room for Him in every area of our lives.

PRAYER: Before I engage in any activity, Lord, let me consult you. Just because it is something that needs to be done does not mean that it is my assignment. Give me wisdom so that I spend my time on things that you have appointed for me. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
